ThegovernmentoftheDemocraticRepublicofCongo(DRC)hasannounceda14billionjointandexclusivedevelopmentagreementwithaconsortiumofChineseandEuropeandeveloperstoconstructtheInga3hydroelectricdam.
TheChineseconsortiumisledbyChinaThreeGorges,alongsideaEuropeanconsortium,ledbyActividadesdeConstrucciónyServicios(ACS)ofSpain.
Thisannouncementfollowsyearsofdelayforacontroversialprojectthathascollapsedandbeenrevivedrepeatedlyoverthelastdecade.
Theapprovedconstructionbidsweresubmittedmorethan18monthsago,andtheDRCgovernmentrecentlyannouncedthatithadrelayedtheresponsibilityofsecuringfundstotheChineseandEuropean
